Hyperstone AG, the German-based embedded RISC microchip specialist, shipped over 1 million devices last year as its revenues jumped 500 per cent. Projections for 2001 anticipate this rapid growth to continue, with expected shipments in the range 2.5 to 3 million.
This increase in sales volume has been achieved on the back of a number of major OEM design wins for Hyperstone's power-efficient E1 range of microcontrollers in megapixel digital still cameras and Compact Flash memory cards. Deals with Agfa, HP and Polaroid mean that sales into consumer electronics products are expected to continue to ramp up in 2001, with further volume coming on stream in other low-cost multimedia, embedded internet and consumer handheld applications.
The company is looking to open an office in the US before the end of the year and expects to raise funds for growth via an IPO later in 2001.
Hyperstone has just opened a design office in Taiwan to support its expanding customer base and distributor network in the Asia/Pacific region.
Joachim Stinshoff, president and CEO of Hyperstone, said: "As part of our long-term growth strategy, Hyperstone Taiwan plays a key role for the company because this is an exciting and important market for Hyperstone where our products can demonstrate all of their strengths. With the opening of this branch office we reinforce our commitment to this market, to our local distributors and customers."
Bill Tang, CEO of Hyperstone distributor in the region, Holy Stone, said: “I believe the foundation of Hyperstone's Taiwan branch will help us to reinforce our commitment to Hyperstone customers in our region. This will ensure an even faster time to market for electronic system designers and manufacturers using Hyperstone's unique integrated RISC + DSP architecture."
