New Silicon Breaks the 200 MIPS/Watt Barrier
hyperstone electronics recently launched new silicon of its E1-32 RISC/DSP processor. The new silicon is a first product of the cooperation between hyperstone electronics and the licensee LG Semicon (South Korea).
This new silicon utilizes the 0.6 micron technology and offers a clock frequency of up to 66 MHz and 66 MIPS, respectively. This faster silicon is pin- and binary compatible with the former E1-32 running at 50 MHz. Users can simply replace the old chip with the new one. The new chip runs at a clock speed of up to 66 MHz @ 5V and up to 50 MHz @ 3.3V. Running at full speed, the E1-32 still has a power consumption of less than 1 W.
The new silicon enables hyperstone to break the 200 MIPS/Watt barrier with 50 MHz @ 3.3V for the first time. hyperstone is now looking forward to breaking the 300 MIPS/Watt barrier through further technology shrinks.
The E1-32 currently offers the following power consumption at 3.3V:

Clock Frequency Power Consumption MIPS/Watt Ratio
50 MHz 224 mW 223 MIPS/Watt
40 MHz 185 mW 216 MIPS/Watt
30 MHz 135 mW 222 MIPS/Watt
20 MHz 86 mW 233 MIPS/Watt
10 MHz 33 mW 303 MIPS/Watt

Virtuoso Nano™ Running on the hyperstone E1-32
Eonic Systems has released the beta version of their Virtuoso Nano operating system running on the hyperstone E1-32 RISC/DSP microprocessor. Virtuoso Classico will follow soon. The Virtuoso Nano OS distinguishes itself through its extremely compact, modular, portable design and its high performance. These features make it particularly suitable for applications in the areas of telecommunications, data compression and encryption, speech synthesis and recognition. The Virtuoso environment will offer an interface to the hyperstone E1-32 debugger hyDEBUG and work with the E1-32 development board. The E1-32's ANSI C Compiler, Assembler, Linker, Library Manager, DSP Library and other tools are available together with Virtuoso. For more information on the Virtuoso Nano OS please visit the web site www.eonic.com of Eonic Systems. EONIC Systems Inc.

JPEG Library Released
Visual Tools (Spain) introduced the first version of their JPEG Embedded Image Compression / Decompression Library optimized for the hyperstone E1-32 RISC/DSP CPU. The library supports user-defined subsampling for best image quality, and compression to desired image size. Several formats are supported. This JPEG library is ready for licensing worldwide. Customization support and maintenance is also provided. (Contact:info@vtools.es)

SDL Tools Now Available
SDL (Specification and Description Language) is now available for the hyperstone architecture. SDL is the widely accepted object-oriented formal language used especially by telecommunication companies. SDL is now gaining more and more acceptance among other sectors, such as the automotive industry. The implementation of SDL for the hyperstone architecture consists of the 'SDT Cmicro package' which has been ported by the German company S&P Media to the hyperstone E1-32 RISC/DSP CPU. SDT is a product designed by Telelogic, member of the Swedish Saab-Scania group. SDT is a set of highly integrated software tools for managing and automating the development and maintenance of real-time and interactive systems. SDL and MSC (Message Sequence Charts) constitute the basis of SDT. For more information, visit the web-site www.sp-media.de or www.telelogic.se

hyperstone USA Takes Off
hyperstone electronics USA, Inc. had a fabulous start in Silicon Valley and across the USA. Especially the MIPS/Watt and MIPS/$ ratios of the hyperstone chips together with the clear roadmap motivated a very positive reaction in the Valley. In addition, companies were very positive on the powerful development environment and the more flexible grant of ASIC rights. Just after incorporating, the US company had already three design-wins in the telecommunication and embedded market. hyperstone USA has still open positions especially for Junior Level Field Application Engineers in Cupertino, CA.

hyperstone's CPU/DSP Design is Creative and Innovative....
....wrote Jim Turley in the April issue of the Microprocessor Report (hyperstone merges CPU and DSP Cores, Microprocessor Report, Vol. No. April 1997, pp 8-11, www.chipanalyst.com). Jim Turley gives in his 4-page paper a detailed insight view into hyperstone's RISC/DSP architecture which is the basis of the E1-32 CPU.

ETNOTEAM and hyperstone Agree on Partnership
The software company Etnoteam S.p.A. (Italy) and hyperstone agreed in March in Milano (Italy) to establish a strategic partnership. As a first step, Etnoteam will port its real-time operating system EOS and its symbolic debugger to the hyperstone E1-32 CPU. The complete development environment, which is based on the ANDF technology, will be made available later this year. The main focus of this partnership will be to provide further engineering resources for system solutions based on the software technology of Etnoteam and the CPUs of hyperstone. If you are looking for solutions, take a look at this partnership. For further information on the software technology of Etnoteam, take a look at www.etnoteam.it
